What are your prices? & What is the MOMM: Pact Pricing?

I know that massage therapy can get expensive and I really want to be able to help heal on a continual basis. I keep my pricing low so massage is an affordable therapy, not an expensive luxury. I am trying out something that I have not seen done before in this field; Weekly & Monthly pricing. I am calling it Pact Pricing.

The pact pricing is for regular patients. It is an honest agreement to continual care for as long as you like on a weekly, bi-weekly, monthly, or bi-monthly basis.

If you come every month, or every other month, you get your sessions at the monthly pricing for $10 off of 60 minutes & $20 off of 90 minutes. Basically these are package deal prices. A great deal!

If you come every week or two, you receive the weekly pricing at $20 off for 60 minutes & $30 off for 90 minutes.. That is basically Groupon pricing! Can't beat that!

Massage Therapy 60 Minutes:

Regular: $60 Pact Pricing: Monthly: $49 Weekly: $39

Massage Therapy 90 minutes:

Regular: $90 Pact Pricing: Monthly: $69 Weekly: $59

What forms of payment do you accept?

All major credit cards, cash & checks are accepted.

How do I know I am picking the right therapy? & Who is the right therapist for me?

I have always had a very high re-booking rate compared to any other LMT any of my past bosses have ever seen. I would always hear things like, "I have tried so many different ways to fix my pain, spending SO MUCH time and money with very little results to show for it." After one session coming to me, I was able to get results like no other. "Magic hands" is the term that has been used most frequently.

The very first job I had as a licensed professional, right in South Portland, Maine, I was booked a month out by my first 6 months. I had so many re-books and received such great reviews, I was labeled the "Deep Tissue Queen!" The second job I had, at Moore Chiropractic Center, in Windham, I was booked three months out almost immediately.

I have had some very loyal clients follow me to three and four different locations throughout these past few years of struggling to find the perfect place for me to be able to grow as a professional and evolve as a therapist.

You can see my reviews and my testimonials so you can take advice from real people to see the type of results you are guaranteed to receive at Mind Over Matter Massage.

What is the difference between a Swedish Massage & a Deep Tissue Massage?

Swedish is a lighter more flowing session. Used to increase blood flow, release minor tension, and relax the mind and body.

Deep Tissue is more about working to release major tension, remove built up tendons, muscle, and fascia. It also helps to increase blood flow, and has a great impact on increasing your range of motion. Also increases mood, appetite, and energy.

Deep Tissue Massage & Myofascial Release are what Mind Over Matter Massage specialize in.

What is Myofascial Release?

ree

A MOMM specialty.

Involves applying gentle but firm pressure into the myofascial connective tissue restrictions and knots to eliminate pain and restore range of motion, flexibility, and best of all, helps improve energy, appetite and mood.

I have found that my innovative myofascial release helps to restore youth by eliminating unnecessary aging symptoms such as wrinkles and helping with posture and organ functioning.

What is fascia?

There isn't much on it yet in the medical world as it has just been discovered that it is actually more than just a sheathe in the body and is only now being medically recognized for it's importance in maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

If I had to describe fascia (as I often do,) I would consider fascia the biggest organ of the body. I believe it to be a constructive matrix or a web that runs from head to toe. It is wrapped around all of your tendons, organs, muscles, and bones. I'd say it acts like a rubber band, is able to get as solid as bone but is as strong as a rock. When the fascia dehydrates and doesn't get much use, this would prevent you from being able to have great range of motion, causing you to feel heavier and immovable. When your fascia has no water to absorb, it dries up and shrinks, pulling on everything it's connected to. It effects your body as a whole, compromising everything from your vision, to your breathing, it clearly decreases our ROM, and I can only imagine what this effect has on our minds.

You can also check out pages What is Fascia? and The Veins of Consciousness to learn more.

What should I do to prepare for my session?

Make sure you try to drink 4 cups of water the day before each session. Two cups in the morning and two cups at night would be ideal. & don't forget the two cups of water the morning of, as well. Just remember, the more water in your body, the better, longer lasting results you will leave with, for sure!

Must I be completely undressed?

You undress to your comfort level and are welcome to stay as fully clothed as you like. Keep in mind, the results will be a lot better the easier it is to relax and release the fascia. You will be fully draped the whole time & only the area being worked on will be un-covered. If the temperature of the room needs an adjustment to your liking, please let me know so we can get you comfortable.

Will my therapist be using oil or lotion?

At MOMM I do a lot of deep tissue gliding. This makes using both oil and lotion a little difficult. So I opt for a high end massage cream. It is called *Biotone Advanced Therapy Massage Cream. The cream is silky and luxurious, right in between oil and lotion and works wonderfully for these types of deep tissue massages and myofascial releases.

ree

Biotone includes apricot oil, sesame oil, grapeseed oil, vegetable glycerin, and grapeseed extract. *Unscented *Paraben-Free *Cruelty-Free *Hypoalergenic

What should I be doing during the therapy session?

It is important to make sure you are comfortable. If an adjustment is needed with the head rest, bolster, temperature, or pressure please, let me know as soon as possible so I can make the adjustment and you can be as comfortable as possible.

It also helps to take slow deep breathes and perform a light mindful exercise while you are being conscious of your breathing.

  • As you slowly inhale, imagine a white purifying light running from your head down your arms and fingers to your legs and toes.

  • Then, slowly exhale that dark, built-up tension and energy.

It is amazing what our minds can do to help us heal.

This has helped increase clients results time and time again. Mindfulness becomes easier and a lot more effortless the more you practice it.

Check out the Intake & Session Exercise page to learn more about the intake process.

Is it appropriate to tip my massage therapist?

It is a service and the prices are unbeatable so if you feel a tip is deserved, a tip is always welcome but not encouraged.

However, tipping is encouraged if you purchased your massage at a discounted rate ahead of time through a third party, as the massage therapist is making less than a quarter of what would typically be earned.

I know massage therapy can get expensive and that is why I keep the pricing low for my clients, so you can use massage therapy as a normal part of your weekly or monthly personal health care and not just a once a year luxury.

How will I feel after the session and what are some steps I should take to prolong results?

With massages at MOMM you will feel like a weight has been lifted off of your shoulders. This is because I am able to get actual releases in the fascia. It helps to know that for your body to be able to relax it needs to be hydrated. That is why water and stretching are two very important steps in keeping your fascia healthy and your youth intact. Stretching not only helps to lengthen and expand the fascia sheath but also helps to spread the hydration even further into those tight and unmanageable spots of tension. When we have a massage, there will clearly be areas left untreated deep in the tissue, because the fascia builds up for years and years and it takes more time to un-do something like this than just an hour or two of massage therapy. So stretching and hydrating in-between sessions is key to sustaining a healthy body and taking care of yourself.

How often should I get a massage therapy session?

I have heard people say they have been told that there can be such a thing as "too much massage." I suppose this is because of the release of toxins and chemicals. I do not see this as an issue and would recommend massage therapy as often as possible. I have people come every week, and I have people come every month, and even once a year. I do suggest, if you can, in the beginning to keep your sessions as close together as possible.

An ideal scenario would be to start off coming once a week for a month for rehabilitation. Then, you can use massage as a maintenance process once or twice a month.

At MOMM I keep the pricing low for my clients. So you can use massage therapy as a normal part of your weekly or monthly personal health care and not just a once a year luxury.

Are there any medical conditions that would make massage inadvisable?

Yes. Massage treatment is non-invasive, relaxing & natural. It is therefore generally considered a safe treatment for most people. However, there are three types of contraindication:

ree

Total: When massage therapy should not be performed at all.

Local: when massage can be performed but not over the contraindicated areas.

Medical: when massage can only be performed once medical permission has been granted.

To see the complete list of contraindications,

please see the Massage Contraindications page here.

Is it okay to crack your knuckles?

Well from what I can tell, the short answer would be no.

However, there are some steps you can take to make it work to your benefit. The cracking or popping sound is not the sound of releasing tension. I would say the sound is actually energy. It is energy being pushed out to another end of the fascia web, adding more tension to another area, probably at the opposite end or the reflex point of the "cracked" fascia.. With that being done, the strand of fascia that basically had it's tension reversed, creates a path for you to get in a really great stretch and release. So, if you stretch out the muscles and tension right after cracking, it can be used to your benefit by creating the space and the path for you to actually get the tension out and give yourself some relief.
